A community pantry is fully stocked with vital supplies after a donation from Pennant Waters, which means that local families and individuals can continue to receive essential support this Autumn.
The Pantry, which runs weekly from the Hwb in the grounds of Abercerdin Primary School, has become a lifeline for people across Evanstown, Hendreforgan and the wider area, but with increasing numbers requiring the ongoing support, the Pantry is reliant on funding and donations to run.
Dawn Mainwaring, a volunteer at the Hwb, explains:
“The Hwb was established in response to the lack of amenities in the area and is now so much more than a shop. It’s a place where our community members can access essential services, participate in educational and social activities, and have open and honest conversations in a supportive environment.
“The Pantry, which runs each Friday, supplements the offering and provides people experiencing financial struggles with vital food supplies, and basic necessities, to ensure that no one in our community goes without. To make sure that we can meet demand we are wholly reliant on donations and financial contributions.”
The Pantry has been stocked with essential supplies after receiving £1,000 from Pennant Walters, which operates a fund linked to the construction of the new, but standalone, Pant y Wal Wind Extension Farm, adjacent to Ogwr Valley.
Dawn continued:
“Having the support of Pennant Walters, amongst others, is just fantastic as the difference the Pantry makes to families across the area is huge. We are so grateful.
“Each Friday we open the doors to the Pantry and for just £5 families can fill their baskets with 15 items. This donation will go such a long way to ensuring that our support goes even further. As a facility we exist to ensure that local people get access to the support they need, and this donation will do exactly that. On behalf of everyone I’d like to say thank you.”
Pennant Walters Managing Director, Dale Hart, said:
“Dawn and the team of volunteers are doing everything within their gift to ensure that people across the local area benefit, and we are delighted that we have been able to play a small part.
"Our wind energy project community funds exist to make a difference to the local communities in which we work, and we hope this donation makes a small difference to the lives of those living locally.”
