Ogmore Vale Bowls Club receive £8,500 donation

A new patio area and balcony has been built at Ogmore Vale Bowls Club which will give the local community a much-needed space for events.

After the success of events last year, like the Christmas light switch-on, the Club was quick to realise that, whilst spectators came in their droves, space was limited. Keen to remedy this, the Club applied to Pennant Walters, which operates a fund linked to the construction of the new but standalone Pant y Wal Wind Extension Farm adjacent to Ogwr Valley. They were successful, and we donated just over £8,500 to the Club.

Club Secretary Stephen Jones explains:

“The Club acts as a hub for our bowls players and the wider community but sadly we’re limited to space that’s mainly inside the pavilion. After last year’s light switch on we knew that we needed to do something that made use of the outdoor space and set about coming up with plans for the patio and balcony area.”

Stephen continued:

“This work has made such a difference to the space, and we can’t wait to utilise it to its full potential. We’re now looking forward to hosting more community events, as well as being able to accommodate more young bowls players through our summer programme.

“On behalf of everyone in Ogmore Vale I’d like to extend a huge thanks to Pennant Walters for supporting our vision.”

Pennant Walters previously supported the Club providing funding to allow them to purchase specialist youth equipment.

Dale Hart, Managing Director of Pennant Walters added:

“The Club has seen the benefit of the previous funding and the uptake of youngsters to the sport has been fantastic to see. We hope that this funding has the same impact and delivers for the local community,

“Our wind energy projects come with community funds that we use to invest in projects such as this and our aim is to bring very real benefits to the communities in the vicinity of our projects, providing financial assistance and expertise where we can.

“We are looking forward to seeing the positive impact locally.”
