Pant-y-Wal Extension

20MW Operational

The Pant-y-Wal Extension wind farm is located to the immediate west of the existing Pant-y-Wal and Fforch Nest windfarms on Mynydd-yr-Aber and east of the settlements in the Ogwr Valley. The site is electrically separate from the earlier built two windfarms and has its own new grid connection which became live in late 2017. The site is served by the same access route built for Pant-y-Wal and Fforch Nest windfarms connecting with the A4093 to the south.
The site was permitted in 2015. Construction commenced in August 2015 and was completed in late 2016. The wind farm has a remaining operational life of over 24 years. The original planning application was for 12 turbines but during the planning process this was reduced to 10. Subsequently 8 of the 10 permitted turbines were built.

Technical Details
The wind farm comprises 8 Nordex N90 2.5MW turbines, which are 80m to the hub and 125m to the tip. The site can produce up to 20MWe, which is the equivalent of the energy required to supply 15,000 homes. Nordex provide an operation and maintenance service and Pennant Walters provide site management and reporting services.
